Retrieving Diagnostic Trouble Codes: Notes

NOTE: Self-diagnostics are limited when accessing codes using MIL. For complete self-diagnostic capabilities, an OBD-II compliant scan tool or Honda PGM Tester is required.

Start engine and check MIL. If MIL stays on, turn ignition off, and connect PGM Tester or OBD-II scan tool to DLC. DLC is located behind right side of center console. See Figure . Turn ignition on. If DTCs are displayed, check for and record freeze frame data, current data and any other PCM data, then proceed to appropriate DTC test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION  . For scan tool operation, refer to manufacturer's instructions. If MIL stays on and no DTCs are displayed, diagnose MIL circuit. See MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT CIRCUIT DIAGNOSIS  . If MIL does not come on, but there is a driveability problem, diagnose concern by symptom. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
