Key Interlock System
- Turn the ignition switch to ACC (I) position.
- Remove screws from lower steering column cover. Separate and remove steering column covers. Disconnect the steering lock assembly connector.
- Check if the ignition key can be moved to LOCK (0) position, and remove the key from the cylinder. Is the ignition key able to move to LOCK (0) position, and to be removed? If yes, check for a short to power in the wire between the multiplex control unit and the key interlock solenoid connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If the wire is okay, replace the multiplex control unit. See appropriate MULTIPLEX CONTROL SYSTEMS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If no, replace the ignition key cylinder/steering lock assembly. See appropriate STEERING COLUMNS article in STEERING.
