Engine Installation
- Install the accessory brackets, and tighten their bolts to the specified torques.
- Install the engine into position in the vehicle.NOTE: Reinstall the mounting bolts and support nuts in the sequence given. Failure to follow this sequence may cause excessive noise and vibration, and reduce bushing life.
- Install the right side engine mount bracket, then tighten the bolts and nut in the numbered sequence shown below.
- Tighten the support nut on the left side engine mount bracket.
- Connect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister hose.
- 2000-2005 models: Install the brake booster vacuum hose (A), fuel return hose (B) and fuel feed hose (C), using new washers (D).
- 2006-2009 model: Connect the brake booster vacuum hose (A) and fuel feed hose (B), then install the quick-connect fitting cover (C).
- 2006-2009 model: Install the intake manifold cover.
- Install the upper radiator hose.
- Install the heater hoses (A) and lower radiator hose (B).
- Raise the vehicle on the hoist.
- Install the engine stop bracket (A), then install the engine stop bracket cushion (B).
- Lower the vehicle on the hoist.
- Push the engine control module (ECM) connectors through the bulkhead, then install the grommet (A).
- Install the battery cable (B) on the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box. Install the ground cable (C) and harness clamps (D).
- Install the harness clamps (A), then install the battery cable (B) on the main under-hood fuse/relay box.
- Install the electrical power steering (EPS) control unit.
- 2000-2005 models: Install the vacuum tank.
- 2000-2005 models: Install the throttle cable (see THROTTLE CABLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ), then adjust the cable (see THROTTLE CABLE ADJUSTMENT ).
- Connect the ECM connectors (A) and dashboard wire harness A connectors (B).
- Install the transmission (see TRANSMISSION INSTALLATION ).
- Install the battery.
- Clean the battery posts and cable terminals with sandpaper, then assemble them and apply grease to prevent corrosion.
- Inspect for fuel leaks. Turn the ignition switch ON (II) (do not operate the starter) so that the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds and pressurizes the fuel line. Repeat this operation two or three times, then check for fuel leakage at any point in the fuel line.
- Refill the engine with engine oil (see ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT ).
- Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed air from the cooling system with the heater valve open (see step 8 on COOLANT REPLACEMENT ).
- Check that the transmission shifts into gear smoothly.
- Do the ECM reset procedure:
- 2000-2005 models (see HOW TO RESET THE ECM )
- 2006-2009 model (see ECM RESET )
- Do the ECM idle learn procedure:
- 2000-2005 models (see ECM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE )
- 2006-2009 model (see ECM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE )
- 2006-2009 model: Do the crankshaft position (CKP) pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure (see HDS CLEAR COMMAND ).
- Inspect the idle speed:
- 2000-2005 models (see IDLE SPEED INSPECTION )
- 2006-2009 model (see IDLE SPEED INSPECTION )
- Inspect the ignition timing (see IGNITION TIMING INSPECTION ).
- Enter the anti-theft code for the radio, then enter the audio presets.
- Set the clock.
