Key Interlock Solenoid/Switch Test

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations, and the precautions and procedures in appropriate AIR BAG article under RESTRAINTS.

  1. Remove the steering lower cover (see STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate STEERING COLUMN article in STEERING).
  2. Disconnect the key switch connector (7P) from the steering lock assembly.
  3. Check for continuity between the terminals No. 5 and No. 7 when the key is pushed, and check for no continuity when the key is released.

  4. Check that the key cannot be removed with power connected to the terminal No. 7 and ground connected to the terminal No. 3.
    • If the key cannot be removed, the key interlock solenoid is OK.
    • If the key can be removed, replace the steering lock assembly (the key interlock solenoid is not available separately).
