Rear Door Latch Replacement
NOTE:
Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Remove these items:
- Door panel (see REAR DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Plastic cover, as necessary (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX - REAR DOOR )
- Rod protector (see step 3 on REAR DOOR OUTER HANDLE REPLACEMENT )
- Raise the glass fully.
- Disconnect the outer handle rod (A) and lock rod (B) from the lock crank (C). Detach the inner handle rod (D) from the rod holder (E), and disconnect the actuator connector (F). Take care not to bend any of the rods.
- Remove the screws securing the latch (G).
- Disconnect the inner handle rod (A) from the latch (B).
- Move the latch (A) through the gap between the center channel (B) and door, then remove it.
- If necessary, detach the lock crank (A) from the door.
- Install the latch in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Make sure the actuator connector is plugged in properly, and each rod is connected securely.
- Make sure the door locks and opens properly.
- Make sure the childproof door locks operate properly.
- When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its perimeter.
