Preliminary Inspection

NOTE: The trouble shooting flowchart procedures assume that the cause of the problem is still present and the ABS indicator is still on. Following the flowchart when ABS indicator does not come on can result in incorrect diagnosis. The connector illustrations show female, terminal connectors with a single outline and male, terminal connectors with a double outline.

Question the customer about the conditions when the problem occurred, and try to reproduce the same conditions. Find out when the ABS indicator came on, such as during ABS control, after ABS control, when the vehicle was at a certain speed, etc. See SYSTEM TESTS  .

Verify customer complaint by operating system. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Inspect for blown fuses and damaged relays. Inspect for loose or corroded connections, damaged wiring harnesses and/or switches. Check for a broken or partially broken wire inside insulation, which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with system disconnected. Ensure any aftermarket electronic equipment is properly installed. If fault is found, repair as necessary. If no fault is found, perform self-diagnostics. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM  .
