DTC P2552: ETCS Control Module Relay Malfunction

NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
  1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
  3. Do the ETCS TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.

    Is the RELAY circuit OK?

    1. YES -  Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ETCS control module relay, the throttle actuator control module, and the ECM.
    2. NO -  Go to step  4.
  4. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  5. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
  6. Remove the ETCS control module relay (A).

    Is there continuity?

    1. YES -  Repair short in the wire between the ETCS control module relay and the ECM (D15), then go to step  10.
    2. NO -  Go to step  9.
  9. Test the ETCS control module relay (see POWER RELAY TEST ).

    Is the relay OK?

    1. YES -  Go to step  17.
    2. NO -  Replace the ETCS control module relay, then go to step 10.
  10. Reconnect ECM connector D (17P).
  11. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  12. Reset the ECM with the HDS.
  13. Do the ECM idle learn procedure (see ECM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE ).
  14. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  15. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and wait 10 seconds.
  16. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?

    1. YES -  If DTC P2552 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ETCS control module relay, the throttle actuator control module, and the ECM, then go to step  1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
    2. NO -  Troubleshooting is complete.
  17. Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM (see UPDATING THE ECM ).

    2. NO -  If the ECM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the ECM was substituted, replace the original ECM (see ECM REPLACEMENT ).
