Shift Indicator Lamp Troubleshooting
- Connect the HDS to the DLC (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- Start the engine.
- Test-drive several minutes.
- Check the C SHAFT SPD in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
Is any vehicle speed indicated?
YES -Go to step 5.
NO -Go to the troubleshooting for P0720 (see DTC P0720: OUTPUT SHAFT (COUNTERSHAFT) SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (M/T MODEL) ).
- Do the gauge self-diagnostic function (see
SELF-DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION
).
Is the result OK?
YES -Go to step 6.
NO -Substitute a known-good gauge control module, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good gauge control module, replace the original gauge control module (see GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT ).
- Do the APP sensor signal inspection (see
APP SENSOR SIGNAL INSPECTION
).
Is the result OK?
YES -Go to step 7.
NO -Depending on the result, repair or replace the appropriate part.
- Do the brake pedal position switch signal circuit troubleshooting (see
BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING
).
Is the result OK?
YES -Go to step 8.
NO -Depending on the result, repair or replace the appropriate part.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Check the position of clutch pedal position switch C (see
CLUTCH PEDAL AND CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH ADJUSTMENT
).
Is the position correct?
YES -Go to step 10.
NO -Do the clutch pedal and clutch pedal position switch C adjustment (see CLUTCH PEDAL AND CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH ADJUSTMENT ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Check the CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH A (C) in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
Is OPEN indicated?
YES -Go to step 12.
NO -Go to step 28.
- Press the clutch pedal.
- Check the CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH A (C) in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
Is CLOSE indicated?
YES -Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the gauge control module, clutch pedal position switch C, and the ECM.
NO -Go to step 14.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Disconnect the clutch pedal position switch C 2P connector.
- Connect clutch pedal position switch C 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 with a jumper wire.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Check CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH A (C) in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
Is OPEN indicated?
YES -Go to step 19.
NO -Replace clutch pedal position switch C (see CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT ).
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Remove the jumper wire from the clutch pedal position switch C 2P connector.
- Connect clutch pedal position switch C 2P connector terminal No. 1 to body ground with a jumper wire.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Check CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH A (C) in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
Is CLOSE indicated?
YES -Go to step 24.
NO -Repair an open in the wire between clutch pedal position switch C and body ground (G403 (see LEFT ENGINE COMPARTMENT WIRE HARNESS (BF) )).
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect ECM connector B (44P).
- Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal B39 and body ground.

Is there continuity?
YES -Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software (see ECM/PCM UPDATE ), or substitute a known-good ECM (see SUBSTITUTING THE ECM/PCM ), then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM (see ECM/PCM REPLACEMENT ).
NO -Repair an open in the wire between the ECM (B39) and the clutch pedal position switch C.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Disconnect the clutch pedal position switch C 2P connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Check CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH A (C) in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
Is OPEN indicated?
YES -Replace clutch pedal position switch C (see CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT ).
NO -Go to step 32.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect ECM connector B (44P).
- Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal B39 and body ground.
