Steering Angle Sensor Replacement
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ) and the precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or service.
NOTE:
Do not damage or drop the combination switch as the steering angle sensor is sensitive to shock and vibration.
- Do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure (see 12 VOLT BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION ).
- With the front wheels in the straight-ahead position and the steering wheel centered, then remove the steering wheel (see STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL ).
- Remove the steering column covers (see COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
- Disconnect the combination light switch 12P connector (A) and the steering angle sensor 5P connector (B) from the combination switch assembly/cable reel (C).
- Remove the wire harness (D) from the harness holder (E).
- Disconnect the cable reel connector A (20P), the cable reel connector B (4P), and the wiper/washer switch 8P connector (C) from the combination switch assembly/cable reel (D).
- Remove the wire harness (E) from the harness holder (F).
- Remove the combination switch assembly/cable reel mounting screws (A), then remove the combination switch assembly/cable reel (B) from the steering lock.
- Remove the cable reel (see CABLE REEL REPLACEMENT ).
- Remove the combination light switch (A) and the wiper/washer switch (B) from the combination switch body assembly (C).NOTE: When installing the cable reel, set the turn signal canceling sleeve position so that the arrow points (D) straight up.
- Install the combination switch body assembly in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:NOTE:
- Do not remove the steering angle sensor from the combination switch body assembly.
- Tighten the combination switch assembly/cable reel mounting screws in the proper sequence (see step 1 on INSTALLATION ).
