At the condition the vehicle condition is in OFF (LOCK) mode, the shift by wire (SBW) shifter control module in the SBW shifter assembly turns the MTR CUT2 output to ON (12 V) when the key release switch is pressed once. The SBW shifter control module monitors the return signal of the MTR CUT2 output, and when the return signal and MTR CUT2 output does not match for a specified duration, the powertrain control module (PCM) receives malfunction from the SBW shifter control module, and stores a DTC.
