PCM Idle Learn Procedure: Procedure
NOTICE:
The idle learn procedure must be done so the PCM can learn the engine idle characteristics. Do the idle learn procedure whenever you do any of these actions.
- Replace the PCM.
- Reset the PCM.
- Update the PCM.
- Replace or clean the throttle body.
- When the engine or transmission is disassembled.
NOTE:
- The PCM memorizes the learning status after an hour from turning the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. If you need to disconnect the 12 volt battery terminals before the PCM memorizes the learning status, jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait 60 seconds, then disconnect the 12 volt battery terminals.
- The PCM idle learn is reset when any of DTC is stored, watch the status of the Idle Learning with the HDS data list.

Preconditions
- HDS Connected
- Transmission P or N Position/Mode
- All electrical items (the A/C, the audio, the lights, etc.) are off.
Procedure
1. Reset the PCM - Refer to: PCM Update () or PCM Reset ()
2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 2 seconds.
3. Start the engine and warm it up.
NOTE:Warm up the engine by raising the engine speed around 3,000 rpm until the cooling fan(s) comes on.
4. Select the following menu buttons on the HDS screen in sequence, and if the reading is below 194°F (90°C) or less, hold engine speed until it reaches 194°F (90°C).

HDS Item Specification ECT Sensor 1 More than 194°F (90°C) 5. Let the engine idle for about 5 minutes with the throttle fully closed.
NOTE:If the radiator fan comes on, do not include its running time in the 5 minutes.
6. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
7. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
8. Wait 60 seconds, and exit the SCS mode with the HDS.
9. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
10. Select the following menu buttons on the HDS screen in sequence, and if the reading is not completed, check the throttle body, then do this procedure again.

11. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
