VTC Actuator Inspection: Inspection
NOTE: Unless otherwise indicated, illustrations used in the procedure are for an example.
- VTC Actuator A and VTC Actuator B - Inspect
Preconditions
- Camshaft Removed
- VTC actuator A/B is locked by turning it.

Procedure/Specifications
1. Install the VTC actuator to the camshaft.
2. Seal the retard/advance holes (a) of the intake/exhaust camshaft with tape and a zip tie. (Figure 1 and 2)

3. Seal one of the advance/retard holes (b) of the intake/exhaust camshaft with tape. (Figure 3)

4. Apply air to the unsealed advance/retard hole (c) to release the lock. (Figure 4)

5. Check that VTC actuator moves smoothly. (Figure 5)
Specifications
Specification VTC actuator moves smoothly 6. Turn VTC actuator clockwise until you hear it click. Make sure to lock VTC actuator by turning it.

- If it is abnormal, replace VTC actuator .
After Inspection
- Remove the zip tie, the tape, and the adhesive residue from the camshaft journal.
