SERVICE INFORMATION

Recently, GM Service and Parts Operations (SPO) made some changes to the Techline Information System (TIS) application. The changes in programming procedures were designed to prevent a technician from programming an Electronic Control Module (ECU) with a calibration that is older than what the vehicle was built with.

In order to successfully program a replacement ECU, it is important to follow these instructions:

  1. Make sure the Tech 2 and TIS are updated to the most current software versions.
  2. Use the Tech 2 "Request Info" from the replacement ECU that will be programmed. (Always follow proper procedures and precautions.)
  3. Connect the Tech 2 to the TECHLINE PC and select Service Programming in TIS.
  4. To program a replacement ECU, select Replace and Program ECU under "Select Program Process." If this option is not selected and a programming event is attempted, the following error will occur: "E2906:Calibrations marked with an asterisk (*) are not recognized by this TIS 2000 release. They are either newer than what is available on this TIS 2000 release, or they are non-GM calibrations. Please contact the Customer Support Center."
  5. After selecting "Replace and Program ECU," select the appropriate calibration and complete the programming event.

If after following this procedure the error message is still displayed or if the programming event was not successful, contact the Techline Customer Support Center (TCSC) for assistance.
