Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Programming and Setup: Introduction

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 GMC Canyon and 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The replacement of the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) will require that the SDM part number be relearned by other modules such as the body control module (BCM) and the powertrain control module (PCM). The following procedures are designed to setup the SDM correctly and must be performed.

IMPORTANT: The Air Bag indicator may illuminate and DTC B1001 may set during the BCM reprogramming procedure.
  1. With the Tech 2 perform the BCM SPECIAL FUNCTION, Setup SDM Serial Number in BCM Procedure.
  2. Clear any diagnostic trouble codes (DTC).
  3. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information.
