Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Cadillac STS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

One or Both SOD Indicators Inoperative

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the left and right side SOD sensor.
  2. Test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the following ground circuit terminals and ground.
    • Terminal 5 (Left SOD Sensor)
    • Terminal 6 (Left SOD Sensor)
    • Terminal 5 (Right SOD Sensor)
    • If greater than 1.0 ohm, test the appropriate ground circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance.
  3. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the following B+ circuit terminals and ground.
    • Terminal 2 (Left SOD Sensor)
    • Terminal 2 (Right SOD Sensor)
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the appropriate B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X3 and X4 harness connector at the left and right front door modules.
  5. Test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the following SOD indicator ground circuit terminals and ground.
    • X4 Terminal 7 (Left Door Module)
    • X4 Terminal 7 (Right Door Module)
    • If greater than 1.0 ohm, test the appropriate ground circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance.
  6. Ignition OFF, test for greater than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the following SOD indicator signal circuit terminals and ground.
    • X3 Terminal 4 (Left Door Module)
    • X3 Terminal 4 (Right Door Module)
    • If less than 1.0 ohm, test the appropriate signal circuit for a short to ground.
  7. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the SOD indicator signal circuit terminals and ground.
    • If the test lamp illuminates, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage.
  8. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the left and right outside rear view mirrors.
  9. Test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance along the SOD indicator signal circuit terminals and the outside rear view mirror terminals.
    • If greater than 1.0 ohm, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit(s) test normal, replace the appropriate side rear view mirror.
  10. If all circuits test normal, replace the appropriate door module.

SOD Indicators Stay On After Self Test

  4. If all circuits test normal, replace the appropriate SOD sensor.
