Installation Procedure

  1. Lubricate the rack and pinion inner tie rod threads with a suitable chassis lubricant.
  2. Install a new rack and pinion inner tie rod nut in the same position as the old one.
  3. Install the rack and pinion outer tie rod end to the rack and pinion inner tie rod.

  5. Install the rack and pinion outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  6. CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  7. Install the new rack and pinion outer tie rod end nut.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut to 71 N.m (52 lb ft).

  8. Tighten the rack and pinion inner tie rod nut against the rack and pinion outer tie rod end.
  9. Install the front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  10. Adjust the front toe. Refer to Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment .
