Removal Procedure

  1. Partially drain the fuel tank below the level of the fuel fill tube. Refer to Fuel Tank Draining .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle, high enough to access the fuel fill hose through the wheelhouse liner. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Remove the left rear wheelhouse liner. Refer to Rear Wheelhouse Panel Liner Replacement (Pickup) or Rear Wheelhouse Panel Liner Replacement (SUV) .
  4. Remove the left rear wheelhouse flare. Refer to Rear Wheel Opening Flare Replacement (Base Rear Body) or Rear Wheel Opening Flare Replacement (H3T) or Rear Wheel Opening Flare Replacement (Rear Door w/BRM and RHD) or Rear Wheel Opening Flare Replacement (Rear Body w/BRM and RHD) or Rear Wheel Opening Flare Replacement (Base Rear Door) or Rear Wheel Opening Flare Replacement (Rear Bumper w/BRM and RHD) .
  5. Remove the bolt securing the fuel fill hose ground strap to the frame.

  7. Disconnect the fuel fill pipe vent line quick connect (1) from the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

  9. Loosen the fuel fill pipe clamp (3).
  10. Remove the fuel fill hose from the fuel tank.
  11. Disconnect the fuel tank vent line (5) from the fuel fill pipe vent line (1). Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

  13. Remove the fuel fill pipe bracket nuts.
  14. Remove the fuel fill pipe from the vehicle.
  15. Cap the open end of the fuel tank.
