Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

  1. Loosen throttle cable. With ignition off and TPS connector connected, connect a digital voltmeter between both terminals of TPS connector. DO NOT  disconnect TPS connector; backprobe through rear of connector.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position, but DO NOT  start engine. Check TPS voltage. If reading is not .48-.52 volt, turn TPS clockwise (increase) or counterclockwise (decrease) until correct voltage is obtained.
  3. After adjustment tighten TPS screw to 13.28-22.13 INCH lbs. (1.5-2.5 N.m). Turn ignition off, and disconnect digital voltmeter. Tighten throttle cable. Disconnect vehicle battery for at least 15 seconds to erase diagnostic memory. Reconnect battery. Start engine and check idle speed.
