Idle Speed: Notes

NOTE: DO NOT  adjust throttle valve Speed Adjusting Screw (SAS). SAS is pre-adjusted at factory. Idle is not adjustable and is controlled by Idle Speed Control (ISC) motor.
  1. Ensure coolant temperature is 176-203°F (80-95°C). Turn all accessories off. DO NOT  check curb idle speed while cooling fan is operating. On vehicles equipped with power steering, ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position. Connect scan tool to DLC located at lower crash pad, below steering column. Operate engine at curb idle speed, and then operate engine for at least 5 seconds at 2000-3000 RPM.
  2. Run engine at idle for 2 minutes. Check idle RPM. See the IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS  table. If RPM is not within specification, go to next step. Ensure timing is set to specification. Check throttle body for cracks, restriction in vacuum port or passages, or binding accelerator cable. Also, check input and output value of relevant sensors. If all check out okay, see DTC P0505, P0506 or P0507 in the appropriate TESTS W/CODES article for ISC testing. See following list.
