Output Current Test: Result

  1. The ammeter reading must be higher than the limit value. See GENERATOR OUTPUT SPECIFICATIONS  table. If it is lower but generator output wire is in good condition, then remove the generator from vehicle and test.
NOTE: The nominal output current value is shown on the nameplate affixed to the generator body.
The output current value changes with electrical load and the temperature of the generator itself. Therefore, nominal output current may not be obtained. If it the case, keep the headlights on the cause discharge of the battery, or use lights of another vehicle to increase the electrical load.
The nominal output current may not be obtained if the temperature of the generator itself or ambient temperature is too high.
In such case, reduce temperature before testing again.
  2. Upon completion of the output current test, lower the engine speed to idle and turn off the ignition switch.
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  4. Remove the ammeter and voltmeter and engine tachometer.
  5. Connect the generator output wire to generator "B" terminal.
  6. Connect the battery ground cable.

(1) Generator nominal output current value is shown on a nameplate attached to generator body. Output current values change with electrical load and generator temperature. Therefore, nominal output current value may not be obtained. If this occurs, keep headlights on and blower motor on high speed to increase electrical load and discharge battery. If generator temperature or ambient air temperature is too high, reduce generator temperature before testing again.
