Hold-In Test

  1. Disconnect field coil wire from terminal "M" of solenoid.
  2. Apply battery voltage to terminal "S" of solenoid, and ground starter case. See Fig 1 .
  3. Solenoid plunger should pull in. If pinion drive remains out when plunger is pulled in, hold-in circuit is good. If pinion drive moves in or moves back and forth repeatedly, hold-in circuit is open. Replace solenoid.
