Checking Runout & Diameter

  1. Check Armature Runout  - Support armature with "V" blocks positioned at each bearing end of armature. Using a dial indicator check armature runout at center of commutator and at end of armature. See Fig 1 . For specification, see STARTER SPECIFICATIONS  . Replace armature if armature runout exceeds specification. See OVERHAUL  .
  2. Measure Armature Diameter  - Using a caliper, measure commutator outside diameter at center of commutator. See Fig 2 . For specification, see STARTER SPECIFICATIONS  . Replace armature if commutator outside diameter is not within specification. See OVERHAUL  .
