Throttle Position (TP) Sensor

  1. Turn ignition on. Backprobe and measure voltage between TP sensor connector ground terminal and TP sensor connector signal terminal. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. Compare with expected voltage. See THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TP sensor connector. Measure resistance between TP sensor connector ground terminal and TP sensor connector reference voltage terminal. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. Compare with standard value. See THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS  table. Measure resistance between TP sensor connector signal terminal and TP sensor connector reference voltage terminal. Resistance should change smoothly from idle position to wide open throttle position.
