Starter Relay Test

NOTE: For circuit identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  1. Remove starter relay from engine compartment relay and fuse box. See Figure .
  2. Using a Digital Volt Ohmmeter (DVOM), check continuity between starter relay terminals No. 2 and 4. See Fig 1 . If there is no continuity, replace starter relay. Check continuity between starter relay terminals No. 1 and 5. See Fig 1 . If there is continuity, replace starter relay. If both checks are okay, go to next step.
  3. Apply battery voltage across starter relay terminals No. 2 and 4. Using a DVOM, check that there is continuity between starter relay terminals No. 1 and 5. See Fig 2 . If there is no continuity, replace starter relay. If there is continuity, starter relay is okay. Install starter relay and engine compartment relay and fuse box cover.
