Pull-In Test

  1. Disconnect field coil wire from terminal "M" of solenoid.
  2. Connect 12-volt battery between terminals "S" and "M" of solenoid. See Fig 1 .
  3. Solenoid plunger should pull in, extending pinion drive. If pinion drive moves outward, pull-in coil is good. If pinion drive does not move outward, replace solenoid.
