Ignition Timing
- Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature (needle is in middle of coolant gauge). Open engine compartment hood and run engine at 2000 RPM for 2 minutes.
- Perform self-diagnostic procedure and check for smooth engine operation. Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM two or three times, then allow engine to return to idle.
- Connect timing light to cylinder No. 1 spark plug cable. Check ignition timing. If ignition timing is incorrect, loosen distributor mounting bolts and adjust by turning distributor. With ignition timing correctly set, check idle speed and mixture. See IDLE SPEED & MIXTURE article.

NOTE:
Mixture adjustment is NOT a part of normal tune-up procedure and should not be performed unless mixture control unit is replaced or vehicle fails emissions testing.
