DTC P1401: EGR Temperature Sensor

  1. Check Power Supply  - Turn ignition off. Disconnect EGR temperature sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between connector terminal "1" (Blue wire) and ground. If voltage is about 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not abour 5 volts, repair harness or connectors as necessary.
  2. Check Ground Circuit  - Turn ignition off. Verify harness continuity between EGR temperature sensor connector terminal "2" (Black wire) and engine ground. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair harness or connectors as necessary.
  3. Check EGR Temperature Sensor  - Remove EGR temperature sensor. Immerse sensor in fluid. Measure resistance of EGR temperature sensor while varying temperature of fluid. Replace sensor if resistance is not as specified. See EGR TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE table. If resistance is correct, go to next step.
  4. Check ECM and EGR temperature sensor harness connectors for damage, corrosion or pushed-out pins. Repair if necessary. If fault is still present, replace EGR temperature sensor.
EGR TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE (1)
