I30 & Q45

Ensure that no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are present. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES articles below:

For I30, see TESTS W/CODES article.

Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) sensor. Start engine. On I30, rev engine to 2000-3000 RPM a couple times and allow to idle. On all models, connect timing light to No. 1 cylinder high-tension wire. See Fig 1. Check ignition timing. See BASE IGNITION TIMING table.

I30 & Q45

13-17° BTDC

⁽¹⁾	With transmission in Neutral and no electrical load on engine.

Ignition timing not adjustable on I30. If ignition timing is incorrect on Q45, loosen camshaft position sensor mounting bolts. Adjust timing by turning camshaft position sensor. Turn ignition off. Connect TP sensor. Start engine and verify idle speed is correct and engine operate smoothly. Turn ignition off. Clear any DTCs that are set. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES articles below:
