Fail-Safe Modes: Notes
ECM enters a fail-safe mode if certain malfunctions are detected due to an open or short circuit. When ECM enters fail-safe mode, MIL illuminates. Refer to all diagnostic tests that apply for description and testing of circuit affected.
When there is an open circuit on MIL circuit, ECM cannot warn the driver by lighting MIL when there is a malfunction on engine control system. Therefore, when electric controlled throttle and part of ECM related diagnosis is continuously detected as not good for 5 trips, ECM warns the driver by operating fail-safe function. In this case, engine speed will not rise more than 2500 RPM due to fuel cut.
