Test 11 - Power Transistor System (Codes 23, 35 And 54)

  1. Disconnect terminal connector near coil (lead connects to pin 24 of MCU connector). Disconnect high tension wire between coil and center of distributor cap. Hold high tension lead 1/4" (6mm) away from good metal ground. Turn ignition switch on. Use jumper wire to connect "Y" terminal of transistor to positive side of 1.5 volt battery. Negative side of battery has to be touching ground. Disconnect jumper lead from 1.5 volt battery. Check to see if a spark is created from the high tension lead to ground. If spark is not created, replace the power transistor and bracket assembly.
  2. Disconnect MCU terminal connectors at MCU, and ignition coil. Check circuit from pin 24 to ignition coil for continuity or shorts. Check pins 23 and 33 for good ground. Repair or replace defective wires or connections.
