Test 3 - Coolant Temperature Sensor (Codes 14, 15 And 16)

  1. Disconnect MCU control terminals at MCU. Disconnect terminal connector from coolant temperature sensor. Check circuits 6 and 8 between the MCU terminal and coolant temperature sensor for shorts and grounds.
  2. Measure the resistance across the coolant temperature sensor terminals. Compare sensor resistance to coolant temperature.
    COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE

    Temperature Ohms
    14 (-10) 7000-12,000
    50 (10) 3000-5000
    68 (20) 2000-3000
    122 (50) 700-1000
    176 (80) 200-400
  3. Replace coolant temperature sensor if resistance does not meet specifications.
