Engine Controls - System/Component Tests - EFI: Introduction
NOTE:
Assembly Line Data Link (ALDL) connector may also be referred to as Data Link Connector (DLC). The term CHECK ENGINE light is now referred to as Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL). The MIL is displayed in instrument cluster as CHECK ENGINE. Electronic Control Module (ECM) may also be referred to as Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
NOTE:
Testing individual components does not isolate shorts or opens. Unless stated otherwise in test procedure, perform all voltage tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
Before testing separate components or systems, perform procedures in BASIC TESTING - EFI article. Since many computer controlled and monitored components set a trouble code if they malfunction, also perform procedures in appropriate information in TESTS W/CODES - 2.6L article.
