Pinion Test

With starter solenoid on starter, attach jumper leads from positive battery post to terminal "S", and from negative post to terminal "M" on starter solenoid to energize pull-in windings. Starter pinion should extend 0.002-0.060" (0.05-1.50 mm) from rest position. If not, replace shim between starter solenoid and starter housing.
