Throttle Position Sensor
Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is auto-zeroing and is not adjustable. To test TPS, connect Tech 2 or equivalent scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located behind cover on lower leftside of dash. Turn ignition on. On scan tool, observe TPS voltage parameters. With throttle in idle position, TPS should read as specified. See CHECKING THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR VOLTAGES table.
CHECKING THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR VOLTAGES
| Throttle Position Switch No. | Specification (Volts) |
|---|---|
| TPS 1 | About .4 |
| TPS 2 | About 4.6 |
| TPS 3 | About 4.6 |
If TPS voltage parameters are not as specified, remove intake pipe from throttle body and check for bent or binding throttle shaft. If problem is found, replace TPS. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article.
