Flywheel Sensor

NOTE: Flywheel sensor may also be referred to as an RPM sensor.

The flywheel sensor is mounted so that it is triggered by each of the 160 flywheel ring gear teeth to give an engine speed signal. See Fig 1 . The correct flywheel sensor air gap is 0.018-1.042 in. (0.46-1.07 mm). The flywheel sensor can be checked using an oscilloscope. Connect the oscilloscope positive lead to the ECU terminal No. 16 or the flywheel sensor Red lead. Connect the Oscilloscope negative lead to the ECU terminal No. 3 or the sensor screen. Observe oscilloscope for a normal flywheel sensor pattern. See Fig 3 .
