Auxiliary Air Valve (XJS)

  1. Remove auxiliary air valve. See AUXILIARY AIR VALVE R & I in the REMOVE/INSTALL/OVERHAUL article in this section. Fully close idle speed adjustment screw. Immerse auxiliary air valve sensing bulb into container of boiling water and observe valve head through side port. Valve should move smoothly to closed position.
  2. Blow air through side port. No air should pass through port. Allow sensing bulb to cool. Valve head should move smoothly back to open the main air passage. If valve operation is not as specified, replace auxiliary air valve. If the auxiliary air valve operation is okay, install valve and adjust idle speed. See IDLE SPEED & MIXTURE in the following:
