Running Test

NOTE: The following test determines if fault lies with motor or solenoid unit.
  1. With motor clamped in vise, use heavy duty cables to connect a 12-volt battery to motor frame and motor terminal to ensure motor operates under light running conditions.
  2. Check light running current draw and RPM, and compare to STARTER SPECIFICATIONS  table. If starter motor fails test, replace starter motor. If starter motor operates, check solenoid unit.
  3. Transfer cable from motor terminal to main solenoid terminal. Fit jumper and touch to bayonet connector on solenoid. If motor does not operate, solenoid or solenoid contacts are faulty. Repair or replace as necessary.
