DTC P0300: Random Misfire Detected

  1. Check fuel pressure. See the following:
    • For 1995 models, see FUEL SYSTEM in BASIC TESTING - 4.0L 6-CYL article.
    • For 1996 models, see FUEL SYSTEM in BASIC TESTING article.
    • For 1997 XJR models, see FUEL SYSTEM in BASIC TESTING article.
    • For 1997 XJ6 models, see FUEL SYSTEM in BASIC TESTING article.
If fuel pressure is not as specified, repair fuel system as necessary. If fuel pressure is okay, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, check for EGR related DTCs that are present. If any other DTCs are present, diagnose DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION  . If no other DTCs are present, go to next step.
  3. Check fuel for contamination. If fuel is contaminated, drain fuel. Refill tank with gasoline and retest. If fuel is not contaminated, clear DTCs. Road test vehicle to try and recreate system fault. Turn ignition off and then on. Read DTCs. If DTC P0300 does not reset, repair is complete.
