DTC P1408: EGR Function Sensor
NOTE:
After each repair, clear DTCs. See CLEARING CODES/PCM RESET PROCEDURE
under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Turn ignition off and then on. Read DTCs to verify repair is complete. For DLC and PCM connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
NOTE:
1995 XJ6 is Federal emissions only and 1995 XJR was not equipped with EGR.
- Using scan tool, read DTCs. If DTC P1408 is present, turn ignition off. Ensure EGR temperature sensor harness and connector is not damaged and connections are okay. Repair as necessary. If harness and connector is okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect EGR temperature sensor harness connector. Using DVOM, check wires at EGR temperature sensor connector for short circuit to battery voltage. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to next step.
- Check EGR temperature sensor Red/Brown wire for short circuit to ground. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace EGR temperature sensor and go to next step.
- Clear DTCs. Turn ignition off and then on. Read DTCs. If DTC P1408 is not present, repair is complete. If DTC P1408 is present, replace PCM.
