Diagnostic Test Procedure

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect the MAP sensor connector. Disconnect the ECM connector EM80. Measure resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ECM harness connector EM80 terminal No. 28. Is resistance greater than 5 ohms? If yes, repair high resistance as necessary. If no, go to next step.
  2. Reconnect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ground. Is voltage greater than 1 volt? If yes, repair short to voltage. If no, go to next step.
  3. Measure resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ground. Is resistance less than 10,000 ohms? If yes, repair short to ground. If no, go to next step.
  4. Reconnect the ECM connector EM80. Disconnect the ECM connector EM83. Measure resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector EM83 terminal No. 13. Is resistance greater than 5 ohms? If yes, repair high resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector EM83 terminal No. 13. If no, go to next step.
  5. Reconnect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 and ground. Is voltage greater than 1 volt? If yes, repair short to voltage. If no, go to next step.
  6. Measure resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 and ground. Is resistance less than 10,000 ohms? If yes, repair short to ground. If no, go to next step.
  7. Reconnect the ECM connector EM83. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 and ground. Is volage less that 4 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  9.
  8. Disconnect the ECM connector EM83. Measure resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 and ECM harness connector EM83 terminal No. 5. Is resistance greater than 5 ohms? If yes, repair high resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 and ECM harness connector EM83 terminal No. 5. If no, go to next step.
  9. Measure voltage between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 and ground. Is voltage greater than 1 volt? If yes, repair short to voltage. If no, go to next step.
  10. Measure resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 and ground. Is resistance less than 10,000 ohms? If yes, repair short to ground. If no, go to next step.
  11. Measure resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminals:
    • No. 3 and 1.
    • No. 3 and 2.
    • No. 1 and 2.

Are any of the resistances less than 10,000 ohms? If yes, repair short as necessary. If no, install a new MAP sensor. If DTC resets, possible ECM failure.
