Diagnostic Test Procedure
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect the MAP sensor connector. Disconnect the ECM connector EM80. Measure resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ECM harness connector EM80 terminal No. 28. Is resistance greater than 5 ohms? If yes, repair high resistance as necessary. If no, go to next step.
- Reconnect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ground. Is voltage greater than 1 volt? If yes, repair short to voltage. If no, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ground. Is resistance less than 10,000 ohms? If yes, repair short to ground. If no, go to next step.
- Reconnect the ECM connector EM80. Disconnect the ECM connector EM83. Measure resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector EM83 terminal No. 13. Is resistance greater than 5 ohms? If yes, repair high resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector EM83 terminal No. 13. If no, go to next step.
- Reconnect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 and ground. Is voltage greater than 1 volt? If yes, repair short to voltage. If no, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 and ground. Is resistance less than 10,000 ohms? If yes, repair short to ground. If no, go to next step.
- Reconnect the ECM connector EM83. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 and ground. Is volage less that 4 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 9.
- Disconnect the ECM connector EM83. Measure resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 and ECM harness connector EM83 terminal No. 5. Is resistance greater than 5 ohms? If yes, repair high resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 and ECM harness connector EM83 terminal No. 5. If no, go to next step.
- Measure voltage between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 and ground. Is voltage greater than 1 volt? If yes, repair short to voltage. If no, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 and ground. Is resistance less than 10,000 ohms? If yes, repair short to ground. If no, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between MAP sensor harness connector terminals:
- No. 3 and 1.
- No. 3 and 2.
- No. 1 and 2.
Are any of the resistances less than 10,000 ohms? If yes, repair short as necessary. If no, install a new MAP sensor. If DTC resets, possible ECM failure.
