Main Control Valve Body: Removal
NOTE:
This procedure will not remove residual fluid from the torque converter.
- Disconnect the battery ground lead.
- Raise the vehicle for access.
- Remove the RH downpipe catalytic converter.
- Loosen front and intermediate muffler clamps (both left and right sides) to allow front muffler to slide forward and disconnect from the intermediate muffler. Slide front muffler down to disconnect from down pipe catalytic converters.
- Remove the downpipe catalytic converter nuts from the exhaust manifolds.
- Remove the harness heatshield lower fixing.
- Remove the screw heatshield/fluid pan clamp.
- Remove the harness heatshield.
- Pull the heatshield from under the clip.
- Disconnect the transmission link harness connector.
- Release the locking lever.
- Release the (transmission case mounted) female connector.
- Remove the (center) retaining bolt.
- Drain the transmission fluid.
- Carefully remove the drain plug and discard the sealing washer. See Figure.
WARNING: TRANSMISSION FLUID MAY CAUSE SEVERE BURNS, ENSURE THAT ALL SAFETY PROCEDURES ARE OBSERVED AND THAT THE RECEPTACLE FOR WASTE HAS SUFFICIENT CAPACITY. - Remove the fluid pan. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID PAN GASKET .
- Remove the fluid filter.
- Pull the filter squarely to disengage the pick-up "O" ring and location tang - there is NO mechanical retention.
- Remove the selector detent leaf spring.
- Remove the screw.
- Remove the dowel - leaf spring to valve body.
- Remove the valve body assembly.
- Remove the nine bolts which retain the valve body to the transmission case.
