Throttle Modulator: Operation

During high speed deceleration when intake manifold vacuum reaches about 21-22 inches, the decel valve triggers a vacuum signal to the throttle modulating diaphragm. This causes the plunger to extend, and in so doing, hold the throttle open slightly. This increased throttle opening allows more air to enter the engine to prevent overly rich deceleration mixtures.
