Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Testing - M/T
- To check input voltage, turn ignition switch to the "ON" position. Locate the oval TPS connector with 3 terminals marked "A", "B" and "C". DO NOT disconnect connector.
- Without damaging sensor wires, insert negative lead of voltmeter into the back of terminal "B" and the positive lead into the back of terminal "A". Ensure that throttle plate is completely closed against idle stop. Note the input voltage reading between terminals "B" and "A".
- To check output voltage, remove voltmeter positive lead from terminal "A" and connect it to terminal "C". Ensure that throttle plate is open fully. Note output voltage reading between terminals.
- Divide output voltage reading by input voltage reading. The desired results should be between .825-.835 volts (.830 volts being ideal). Adjust TPS if necessary.NOTE: For example: if input voltage is 5 volts and output voltage 4.15 volts, divide 4.15 by 5 (4.15/5 =.83). The result would be .83 volts, or 83%.
- If a large TPS adjustment is necessary, loosen bottom mounting screw and pivot top of sensor until proper reading is achieved. If a fine adjustment is necessary, loosen top sensor mounting screw and pivot bottom of sensor until proper reading is achieved. Remove voltmeter.
