Wide Open Throttle (Wot) Switch

NOTE: WOT switch is used on Wrangler model only.
  1. Disconnect wire harness connector from WOT switch. See Figure . Using an ohmmeter, connect ohmmeter leads to WOT switch terminals. Manually open and close switch. When switch is closed reading should be infinite. A low resistance should be indicated at wide open position. Test switch operation several times. Replace WOT switch if defective.
  2. With ignition switch in the "ON" position, connect voltmeter leads between pin No. 6 and pin No. 7 (ground) of diagnostic connector "D2". See Figure .
  3. On all models (except Wrangler) "D2" diagnostic connector is located on right fender well, behind relay block. On Wrangler models, "D2" connector is located on bracket, fender side of battery.
  4. Voltage should be zero with WOT switch in wide open position and greater than 2 volts in any other position.
  5. If voltage is always zero, test for short to ground in wiring harness or switch. Check for open circuit between ECU connector pin No. 8 and WOT switch connector. See Figure . Repair or replace wiring harness as required.
  6. If voltage is always greater than 2 volts, test for an open wire or connector between switch and ground. Repair as required.
