Removal & Installation: Distributor: Installation

  1. If necessary, use a flat blade screwdriver to turn oil pump gear shaft until slot is slightly past the 11 o'clock position. See Fig 1 .

  2. With gasket and rotor installed on distributor, position distributor into hole in engine block. Do not engage distributor gear into cam gear. Visually line up hold-down ear of distributor housing with hold-down clamp hole.
  3. Turn rotor to the 4 o'clock position. See Fig 2 . Slide distributor down into block until it seats. Keep hold down ear aligned to hole in block.
  4. Rotor should be in the 5 o'clock position with the trailing edge of rotor blade lined up with index mark previously scribed on distributor housing. Install distributor hold down clamp bolt and tighten to 9-14 ft. lbs. (12-19 N.m).
  5. Install distributor cap and connect distributor electrical connector. If previously removed, install electrical cooling fan and shroud. Connect negative battery cable.
