Sync Pulse (Stator) Test

  1. Without disconnecting distributor connector from distributor, insert positive lead of an analog type voltmeter into Blue wire on connector, and insert negative lead into Gray/White wire of connector.
  2. Set voltmeter to 15-volt D/C scale. Turn ignition switch to the "ON" position. Voltmeter should show approximately 5.0 volts. If there is no voltage, ensure that both voltmeter leads have good contact with wires.
  3. If there is still no voltage, remove ECU and check for voltage at pin C-16 and ground with harness connected. If there is still no voltage, perform vehicle test using DRB II. If voltage is present, check continuity between Blue wire at distributor connector and C-16 at ECU.
  4. If there is no continuity, repair harness as necessary. Check for continuity between Black wire at distributor connector and ground. If there is no continuity, repair harness as necessary.
  5. While observing voltmeter, crank engine. Voltmeter needle should fluctuate back and forth while engine is cranking. This verifies that stator in distributor is operating properly. If there is no sync pulse, replacement of stator is necessary.
