2.5L (Wrangler)

  1. With engine idling at normal operating temperature, attach vacuum gauge to vacuum source of EGR/evaporative canister purge solenoid. See Figure . There should be a minimum of 15 in. Hg.
  2. If vacuum is low, check line for kinks, twists or loose connections at throttle body vacuum port. If vacuum is okay, remove gauge, reconnect vacuum line and proceed to next step.
  3. Disconnect line at solenoid output port and check vacuum. No vacuum should be present at this side of solenoid (zero vacuum). If vacuum reading is zero, leave gauge connected and proceed to next step. If vacuum is present, check solenoid and ECU operation using DRB II Service Diagnostic Tester and repair as necessary.
  4. Disconnect electrical connector at solenoid and note vacuum at solenoid output port. Vacuum should now be present. If vacuum is not present, replace EGR solenoid. If vacuum is present, go to EGR VALVE TEST (2.5L & 4.0L)
