Test 21A - Testing Compass/Mini-Trip Module For No Response

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see BODY CONTROL SYSTEM CONNECTORS under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE. For wiring diagrams, see appropriate chassis wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS Section.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect compass/mini-trip module connector. Connector is located in overhead console. Check connector condition and clean or repair connector as necessary. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Put DRB-II in voltmeter mode. Measure voltage at terminal No. 7 (Yellow/Dark Green wire) of compass/mini-trip module connector.
  2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace compass/mini-trip module. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If voltage is less than 10 volts, remove and inspect fuse No. 19 from fuse block. If fuse is blown, go to step 4). If fuse is okay, probe input terminal (in fuse block) to fuse No. 19.
  3. If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open in Yellow/Dark/Green wire between fuse block and compass/mini-trip connector. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Orange/Black wire between ignition switch and fuse block. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  4. Put DRB-II in ohmmeter mode. Probe output terminal (in fuse block) from fuse No. 19. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Yellow/Dark Green wire and replace fuse No. 19. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace fuse No. 19. Reconnect compass/mini-trip module connector.
  5. Turn ignition switch to On position. Remove and recheck fuse No. 19. If fuse is blown, replace compass/mini-trip module. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If fuse is okay, repair is complete. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
