Test 8A - Short To Battery On Bus

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see BODY CONTROL SYSTEM CONNECTORS under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE. For wiring diagrams, see appropriate chassis wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS Section.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using DRB-II, answer the question whether a module is present or not. Disconnect Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) controller connector (if equipped). Controller is located to right of steering column. Check connector condition and clean or repair connector as necessary. If DRB-II does not display SHORT TO BATTERY, replace ABS controller. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  2. If DRB-II displays SHORT TO BATTERY, disconnect Single Board Engine Controller (SBEC) connector. SBEC is located at left front of engine compartment. Check connector condition and clean or repair connector as necessary.
  3. If DRB-II does not display SHORT TO BATTERY, replace SBEC. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If DRB-II displays SHORT TO BATTERY, disconnect compass/mini-trip module connector (if equipped). Connector is located in overhead console. Check connector condition and clean or repair connector as necessary. If DRB-II does not display SHORT TO BATTERY, perform TEST 8B.
  4. If DRB-II displays SHORT TO BATTERY, disconnect vehicle theft module (if equipped). Module is located to right of steering column. Check connector condition and clean or repair connector as necessary. If DRB-II does not display SHORT TO BATTERY, perform TEST 8C.
  5. If DRB-II displays SHORT TO BATTERY, disconnect automatic temperature controller (if equipped). Check connector condition and clean or repair connector as necessary. If DRB-II does not display SHORT TO BATTERY, perform TEST 8D. If DRB-II displays SHORT TO BATTERY, using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between terminal No. 1 (Violet/Brown wire) of CCD bus diagnostic connector and ground.
  6. If voltage is more then 10 volts, repair short to battery in Violet/Brown wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair short to battery in White/Black wire or White/Gray wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
