Test 9A - Short To 5 Volts On Bus

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see BODY CONTROL SYSTEM CONNECTORS under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE. For wiring diagrams, see appropriate chassis wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS Section.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using DRB-II, answer the question whether a module is present or not. Disconnect compass/mini-trip module connector (if equipped). Connector is located in overhead console. Check connector condition and clean or repair connector as necessary. If DRB-II does not display SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace compass/mini-trip module. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  2. If DRB-II displays SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, disconnect Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) controller connector (if equipped). Controller is located to right of steering column. Check connector condition and clean or repair connector as necessary. If DRB-II does not display SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace ABS controller. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  3. If DRB-II displays SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, disconnect automatic temperature controller (if equipped). Check connector condition and clean or repair connector as necessary. If DRB-II does not display SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace automatic temperature controller. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If DRB-II displays SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, disconnect Single Board Engine Controller (SBEC) connector.
  4. Check connector condition and clean or repair connector as necessary. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between terminals No. 6 (Violet/White wire) and No. 26 (Violet/Brown wire) at SBEC connector. If resistance is less than 1000 ohms, repair short in Violet/Brown and Violet/White wires. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  5. If resistance is more than 1000 ohms, check resistance between terminals No. 46 (White/Black wire) and No. 6 (Violet/White wire) of SBEC connector. If resistance is less than 1000 ohms, repair short in White/Black or White/Gray wire and Violet/Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  6. If resistance is more than 1000 ohms, turn ignition switch to ON position. If DRB-II does not display SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace SBEC. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If DRB-II displays SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace vehicle theft alarm module. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If DRB-II displays SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace instrument cluster. Module is located to right of steering column. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
